In 1954, the Barquisimeto Hospital moved from to its new seat with six hundred beds. The old building of Caridad, which costed so much sacrifices and pledgings, ceases to operate as a center of medical services and goes to the hands of the Piar del Cuartel Jacinto Lara battalion. When military relinquish it its deterioration starts and goes so fast that its demolition is planned out. In october 15th, 1964 the structure is transferred from the state government to the Foundation of Housing and Public Works of the Lara State (FundaLara) in an operation which involves also the public library and the old police quarters. |
In those times the Barquisimeto peoplewho had received service and remedy in the Hospital de la Caridad were nostalgic to see the walls worn out by negligence.
For the new generations the building came to be an enigma, a huge rambling house whose large windows became dark holes in which mystery inhabited. Except for this, the city was growing fast into modernization and seemed to turn its back to this important protagonist of its history leaving the inclemency of time, weeds and loneliness to make it a shelter for all that was dark and wretched. |
